Submission Guidelines
Frontiers of Being welcomes submissions from clinicians, researchers, and scholars working at the intersection of physiology, social science, philosophy, and clinical practice.
Who Can Submit
Submissions are open to registered authors. To apply for author status, create an account and select "Author / Contributor" during registration. Applications are reviewed by the editorial board, typically within five working days. Approved authors gain access to the submission portal.
We welcome submissions from clinicians, academics, and independent researchers. Institutional affiliation is not a requirement. What we look for is rigour, clarity, and genuine engagement with the journal's intellectual scope.
Sections & Formats
Reserved for invited pieces from the editorial board or responding to urgent questions in the field. External authors may propose editorials; proposals should be sent before submission.
The primary format of the journal. Extended argument crossing disciplinary lines. Essays should open a problem clearly, develop it with precision, and close with reflection rather than false resolution. References integrated into the text or collected at the end under "Minimal Bibliography."
Observations from clinical practice or fieldwork that document patterns not yet adequately named in the literature. Does not require a formal hypothesis. Should be grounded in direct experience and analytically honest about its limitations.
First-person or third-person accounts of a single subject over time, with optional biomarker annotation. Identity may be anonymised; authors must disclose the relationship to the subject. The editorial board retains the right to request independent verification.
Edited transcripts of conversations between two or more interlocutors. Submissions should include a brief introduction situating the exchange. Both participants must consent to publication.
A brief framing essay followed by an annotated list of 6–15 references on a specific topic. The emphasis is on curation and commentary rather than exhaustiveness.
Language
Submissions are accepted in English and Spanish. Bilingual publication (parallel texts) is possible for selected articles at the discretion of the editorial board. Authors are responsible for the quality of their own prose; we do not provide translation or language editing services at this stage.
Style & Tone
We do not impose a house style, but we have clear expectations about tone. Prose should be precise without being arid, and clear without being reductive. We do not publish writing that requires specialised vocabulary to disguise the absence of a genuine argument. We also do not publish writing that sacrifices accuracy for accessibility.
Avoid: bullet-point structure, motivational framing, hedging language used as a substitute for uncertainty, and references deployed for credential rather than argument. Use: full sentences, active voice where appropriate, and the minimum number of citations necessary to support a claim.
References
We use a minimal citation style. In-text citations may be parenthetical (Author, Year) or footnoted. A reference list at the end of the article should follow APA 7th edition format. We do not require exhaustive bibliographies — cite what you have genuinely engaged with, not what demonstrates range.
Review Process
All submissions undergo editorial review. At this stage of the journal's development, review is conducted by the editor-in-chief, with consultation from subject specialists for articles requiring specific technical assessment. We aim to respond to all submissions within ten working days of receipt. Accepted articles may be subject to minor editorial revision; authors will be consulted before any substantive changes are made.
We do not currently operate double-blind peer review. This reflects the small scale of the journal at founding, not a position on the value of peer review. A formal peer review process is planned for a later volume.
Ethics & Originality
By submitting, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration at another publication. Where human subjects are involved, authors must confirm that appropriate consent or ethical approval was obtained. The journal reserves the right to retract published articles if misconduct is identified after publication.
How to Submit
Submissions are made through the online portal, accessible to registered authors at /submit. Paste or write your article directly in the submission form. HTML formatting is supported for basic elements: headings (<h3>), emphasis (<em>, <strong>), and blockquotes (<blockquote>). Images and figures are not yet supported in the submission form; authors wishing to include visual material should contact the editorial board before submitting.
